Charlene Stern to serve as Âé¶¹´«Ã½F interim provost

Dr. Charlene Stern, vice chancellor for rural, community, and Native education (VCRCNE), has agreed to serve as Âé¶¹´«Ã½F's interim provost and executive vice chancellor while we conduct a national search for a permanent provost.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½A seeks interim director for Kenai Peninsula College

Following the April 11 announcement that KPC Director Cheryl Siemers will serve as interim chancellor for Âé¶¹´«Ã½A, Chancellor Sean Parnell is accepting letters of interest and nominations for the interim director role at Kenai Peninsula College.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½A Interim Chancellor appointed
May 02, 2025
Cheryl currently serves as the director of Âé¶¹´«Ã½A's Kenai Peninsula College (KPC). She has excellent leadership experience, understands and clearly articulates Âé¶¹´«Ã½A's dual-mission, and has led enrollment growth at KPC. Cheryl will work alongside Chancellor Parnell during his transition and will begin as Interim Chancellor on May 17.

Provost and Executive Vice Chancellor Anupma Prakash has announced her retirement, effective May 31, 2025. The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Fairbanks is launching a national search for her successor.

Âé¶¹´«Ã½S Honors Sioux Douglas of Juneau with Meritorious Service Award
April 18, 2025
Ms. Douglas has tirelessly advocated for the needs of seniors and people with disabilities in Southeast Alaska. The award will be given at the 2025 Juneau Campus commencement ceremony, taking place at 2:00 pm on Sunday, May 4 in the Âé¶¹´«Ã½S Recreation Center.

Rachael Ball named vice provost for student success and dean of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½A Honors College

Ball has been serving in this role in an interim capacity in January 2024. In her role, Ball oversees the Office of Student Success, which supports students through Academic Advising, the Learning Commons, Navigate360 and initiatives like textbook affordability and peer mentoring.

Provost Anupma Prakash to retire on May 31, 2025
April 04, 2025
Provost Prakash joined the Âé¶¹´«Ã½F faculty in 2002 as an associate professor of geophysics. Prior to her appointment as provost, she served as associate dean and interim dean in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics and the director of the National Science Foundation's Alaska EPSCoR program.

Dr. X̱'unei Lance Twitchell, Professor of Alaska Native Languages at the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Southeast, won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing for a Preschool Animated Series at the 2025 Children's & Family Emmy® Awards on March 15 in Los Angeles.

Professor Vladimir Romanovsky Honored with 2025 IASC Medal

The International Arctic Science Committee (IASC) has awarded the 2025 IASC Medal to Professor Emeritus Vladimir Romanovsky, recognizing his exceptional and sustained contributions to Arctic science, particularly in permafrost research.
