    The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Board of Regents took a step today toward consolidation of the university system into one accredited Âé¶¹´«Ã½. By a vote of 8-3, regents made their decision for providing the best way to serve Alaska's students in the face of a severe reduction in state funding.

    Dear Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Community, Today, on a vote of 10-1, the Board of Regents approved a declaration of financial exigency for the university. This difficult decision is a direct result of a massive $136 million (41%) reduction in state funding, projected additional losses from declining enrollment and reduced research activity, and the lack of sufficient reserves to fund our current operations through the year.

    The Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Foundation launched a campaign Monday, July 15 to help offset the loss of $15 million in state funding for the Alaska Education Grant, Alaska Performance Scholarship, and the WWAMI Medical Education Loan Program. Donations to support scholarship scholarships may be made online or by texting AKScholarships to 41444.
