Â鶹´«Ã½ receives grant to install natural gas shut-off valves on Anchorage campus

The Â鶹´«Ã½ was awarded $249,000 to install 30 seismic natural gas meter shut-off valves on the University of Anchorage campus. The funding was provided by a grant from FEMA's Hazard Mitigation Grant Program. Installation of the shut-off valves will be completed by Sept. 2020.

More than 1,100 Â鶹´«Ã½A students slated to graduate this fall

The Â鶹´«Ã½ Anchorage will celebrate the fall Class of 2019 graduates at 1 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 15, in the Alaska Airlines Center. The ceremony honors the accomplishments of more than 1,100 undergraduate, graduate and professional school students from the Anchorage campus.

Board of Regents responds to legislative intent language and compact with governor; sets meeting and public testimony dates

Dear Â鶹´«Ã½ Community - The university Board of Regents has transmitted its response to legislative intent that it consider a plan to transition the university from three separately accredited institutions into a single accredited institution. The response can be found at /files/bor/2019/2019-11-22-Buretta-to-Ms.-Sanders-Response-to-the-Legislative-Intent-Language.pdf. The intent language was included as part of Â鶹´«Ã½'s operating budget and a response was due to the legislature by Dec. 1, 2019.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation seeks nominations for 2020 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence

The Â鶹´«Ã½ Foundation is now accepting nominations for the 2020 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence. The prize, which includes a $15,000 award, is presented to an individual who has demonstrated excellence in support of the Â鶹´«Ã½. Any Â鶹´«Ã½ student, faculty, staff or volunteer who has made a significant contribution to the university's mission is eligible to be nominated.

One year later: Looking back at the Nov. 30 earthquake

This Saturday marks the first anniversary of the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck about 8 miles north of Anchorage, Alaska on Nov. 30, 2018. Alaskans were just starting their Friday mornings when the quake hit at 8:29 a.m., and the community immediately jumped into action.

Â鶹´«Ã½ celebrates National Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month

This month, the Â鶹´«Ã½ pays tribute to the rich ancestry and traditions of Indigenous people by celebrating National Native American and Alaska Native Heritage Month. In October, the Alaska Legislature permanently established November as Alaska Native Heritage Month. House Bill 126 was signed into law during a meeting of the Alaska Native Brotherhood/Alaska Native Sisterhood Grand Camp at Alaska Pacific University.

Â鶹´«Ã½ Scholars class of 2020 celebrated at receptions across Alaska

The Â鶹´«Ã½ held five receptions across the state to honor the Class of 2020 Â鶹´«Ã½ Scholars. "The Â鶹´«Ã½ Scholars program is Alaska's way of investing in our best and brightest students so that they will continue their educational journey at the Â鶹´«Ã½," said Lael Oldmixon, director of the Â鶹´«Ã½ Scholars program. "The scholarship program gives students options for studying at any of Â鶹´«Ã½'s campuses and universities, or participating in an exchange program abroad. Their options are limitless."

FY21 budget includes funding for Â鶹´«Ã½A and Â鶹´«Ã½A athletic programs

Â鶹´«Ã½ athletics will continue unchanged next season. "It was stated and affirmed that we would have athletics at Â鶹´«Ã½A and Â鶹´«Ã½F," said Keith Champagne, Â鶹´«Ã½F Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Athletics. "Same sports as this year, same everything. We're optimistic that we have the support of the Board of Regents to move forward with athletics into the future."

Alaska 529 announces 2019 scholarship account winner

A lucky Soldotna woman received an early birthday surprise-- a $25,000 scholarship. Marta Taylor thought that she was having lunch with her husband and daughter at Froso's Family Dining to celebrate her birthday. She didn't know that Lael Oldmixon and Buffy Kuiper from Alaska 529 (formerly the Â鶹´«Ã½ College Savings Plan) had flown down from Fairbanks and were waiting to surprise her with a giant check and a birthday cake.

Alaska Legislature honors Â鶹´«Ã½A WWAMI professors

The 31st Alaska Legislature recently honored Â鶹´«Ã½ Anchorage professors Max Kullberg, Ph.D. and Holly Martinson, Ph.D. for their ground-breaking medical research and for teaching the next generation of medical students and undergraduate students in Alaska.
