Âé¶¹´«Ã½F awarded Military Friendly bronze status

Âé¶¹´«Ã½F was recently recognized as a Military Friendly Bronze school. The designation puts Âé¶¹´«Ã½F in the top 30% of Military Friendly colleges across the country. Âé¶¹´«Ã½F has been a Military Friendly school since 2010 and strives to continually improve service to military and veteran students and families.

All three chancellors provided updates on recent accomplishments, awards and activities at their universities, and President Johnsen offered a positive look at the future of the university and its vision for 2040.

I am hopeful that our communities will remain largely unaffected by COVID-19. That said, Universities have students and employees who travel around the world, and as noted in the Facts and Resources section below, COVID-19 continues to spread, though so far, not to Alaska.

The Alaska State Committee for Research (SCoR) will add four inductees into the SCoR Alaska Innovators Hall of Fame in 2020.

Before there were pick-up trucks, there were the Alutiiq/Sugpiaq angyat (open boats). Crafted explicitly for heavy seas and mass transportation, and made from local materials, these historic skin-covered boats were used in Sugpiaq society for harvesting and traveling. Angyat were owned by families.

In 2011, Dr. Robert "Trey" Coker suffered a debilitating ATV accident that fractured three vertebrae and left him bedridden for about a month. Although he soon recovered, his muscles had atrophied resulting in a loss of physical function. The unanticipated setback inspired him to think what could be done about to prevent the physical decline in older adults.
