Appropriations Priorities

The Â鶹´«Ã½ (Â鶹´«Ã½) system is committed to excellence in education, research, and public service. In delivering on that three-part mission, the Board of Regents is focused on increasing educational attainment, advancing economic development, providing a highly skilled workforce, growing our world-class research, and doing all of it in a more cost-effective manner.

The Â鶹´«Ã½ system submits appropriations requests (a.k.a. earmarks, plus-ups, and programmatic requests) to Alaska's Members of Congress in an effort to secure federal funds to support our three-part mission. On this page, you will find information on how the Â鶹´«Ã½ system is currently managing appropriations requests and links to prior years' appropriations requests made to Alaska's Members of Congress.

FY27 Appropriations Requests

The Â鶹´«Ã½ system will follow this estimated timeline for considering FY27 appropriations requests:

Week of September 8th, 2025: The Â鶹´«Ã½ system will begin accepting proposals.

October 10, 2025: Deadline for submitting proposals.

Mid to Late October 2025: Â鶹´«Ã½ universities will work with the Office of Government Relations to review proposals for eligibility, gather additional information, and assess their likelihood of success.

Early November 2025: The Chancellors' designated staff will recommend which proposals should move forward, and proposers will be notified of their proposal's status.

Mid-November to Early December 2025: Chancellors will review the recommended proposals, decide which ones will move forward, and set university priorities. Proposers will be notified of their proposal's status.

December 2025: The Â鶹´«Ã½ Office of Government Relations will discuss all potential proposals with Alaska's Members of Congress and their staff to assess the viability of the proposals.

Early January 2026: The Â鶹´«Ã½ President will review the Chancellors' proposal priorities and, in consultation with the Chancellors, will determine which proposals to submit to Alaska's Members of Congress and in what order. Proposers will be notified of their proposal's status.

January 2026: The Â鶹´«Ã½ President will share the priority list with the Board of Regents for notification and feedback.

February to April 2026: The Â鶹´«Ã½ Office of Government Relations will prepare and submit approved proposals to the appropriate Alaska Member of Congress. Alaska's Members will then determine which proposals to support and submit to the Appropriations Committees for funding. Proposers will be notified of their proposal's status.

Summer 2026: The House and Senate Appropriations Committees will review proposals and decide which ones will receive some or all of the requested funding. Proposers will be notified of their proposal's status.

Fourth Quarter 2026: Congress will (ideally) pass the appropriations bills that include the requests. Proposers will be notified of their request's status.
