Governor Sean Parnell appointed Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Fairbanks student Mari Freitag to the board in 2011. Regent Freitag is studying Political Science and Justice at Âé¶¹´«Ã½F. She started her experience with governance and politics in Sen. Lisa Murkowski’s Washington D.C. office as a summer intern in 2008. »At Âé¶¹´«Ã½F she became involved with the Associated Students of the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Fairbanks (ASÂé¶¹´«Ã½F) as a Senator, a role she filled for two years. »She served as the ASÂé¶¹´«Ã½F Vice President for the 2010-2011 academic year, and was elected President in the spring of 2011. »In addition, she has participated with the Nanook Traditions Board, the Âé¶¹´«Ã½F Residence Hall Association and New Student Orientation as an Orientation Leader. »Regent Freitag also has been involved with the Âé¶¹´«Ã½ Coalition of Student Leaders, traveling to Board of Regents’ meetings and the state capital in Juneau to advocate for student needs. Regent Freitag expects to graduate at the end of her term as Student Regent, and then go on to earn a law degree.
